NSBE Jr. Innovators Main Stage (formerly the “Pre-Torch Awards”)

  • The NSBE Jr. Innovators Main Stage is where brilliance meets the spotlight. Students showcase months of innovation, research and teamwork with captivating projects that highlight the power of Black youth in STEM. This event celebrates creativity, leadership and the future of engineering, setting the tone for NSBE Jr. innovation.

Real-World Challenge

  • The Real-World Challenge empowers NSBE Jr. Members to turn passion into purpose. Teams tackle real-life community or global issues using engineering design, research and critical thinking. Guided by mentors and industry professionals, students develop innovative solutions that merge creativity with social impact.

TBH Chill Lounge

  • The TBH (“To Be Heard”) Chill Lounge offers a relaxed space where students can recharge, connect and express themselves authentically. Whether through guided reflection, open conversations or journaling activities, the lounge reminds participants that wellness is an essential part of leadership.

“25 Under 25” Leadership Roundtables

  • The “25 Under 25” Roundtables bring NSBE Jr. members face-to-face with the next generation of STEM changemakers. These rising leaders — engineers, entrepreneurs, scholars and creators — share their journeys, lessons and motivation with students following in their footsteps.

Gaming Lounge

  • The Gaming Lounge merges fun and STEM innovation in an interactive environment where play meets problem-solving. Students explore the technology behind gaming, from coding and design to physics and strategy.

PCI Passport Program

  • The PCI Passport Program transforms the Convention into a personalized exploration journey. Participants collect digital and physical “stamps” by attending workshops, activations and exhibits aligned to their interests and goals.

Grad Student Lounge

  • This is a dedicated space designed for graduate students to recharge and connect. It encourages spontaneous intellectual or wellness activities. The lounge includes comfortable seating, rotating installations, pop-up flash talks, guided journaling and low-stakes networking. It also offers moments of calm that support students’ emotional well-being. The environment is crafted to spark conversation, creativity and community building.

You Belong Here: (De)Constructing Scholarly Identity

  • In this interactive workshop for early-career Ph.D. students, participants explore and define their emerging scholarly identity through guided prompts, engage in peer feedback and learn from mentorship stories. The workshop encourages reflection on personal values, disciplinary norms and professional aspirations. Students leave with greater clarity about how they want to grow as scholars.

Grant Writing for Black Scholars in Today’s Political Landscape

  • This skill-building workshop focuses on developing strong grant proposals. Participants learn how to identify funders and practice writing effective personal statements and broader impact sections. The session also addresses barriers Black scholars face in the current political climate. Attendees gain practical strategies to strengthen the competitiveness of their proposals.

Data Analysis and Visualization in Python brought to you by the Carpentries

  • Data is information, and Information is Power! Let’s get started on our professional journey with a relevant, next-level training on how to use and impactfully show data. This eight-hour session will kick off your Convention journey.

NSBE Professionals Signing Day

  • Come learn what it means to positively impact the community through your membership. This is where you’ll have the chance to meet all the movers and shakers in NSBE Professionals. Think of this as your own personal signing day. You’ll walk in with questions, but you’ll walk out with a chapter.

Industry Meet-up

  • Join this peer-to-peer networking event where you can make even more authentic connections in your industry. These friendly roundtables are a place where your professional interests can organically intersect. So if you’re a transportation nerd or a woman serving in the federal government or an engineer in a nontraditional role, these circles are for you.

Professionals Speed Networking

  • Know what professional development you need but just need time to talk to the right someone? This is the event you’ve been looking for! You’ll sign up and provide some information about yourself, a seasoned person in a similar industry will review, and you will receive their advice tailored to your concerns. Get in, get info, and get out — all within 15 minutes.

NSBE en Noir, a segment of the NSBE Black on Purpose (BOP) event

  • Let’s finish our business meeting and celebrate in style. Bring your best all-black day party fit, and listen to some great live music in our Professionals-only area of the NSBE BOP. You’ll meet peers and connect in a relaxed setting while reminiscing over the conference.

Dear NSBE Professionals,

I look forward to seeing you in Baltimore, Maryland, next March for the Technical Professionals Conference (TPC) of NSBE’s 2026 Annual Convention (#NSBE2026). This event — our 30th annual TPC — is centered on the theme “Advancing S.T.E.M. — Shaping the Future.” This convention is our time to shape the future, transform our communities, empower excellence, and mobilize innovation.

As NSBE Professionals, our goal is to “inspire the next generation of technical professionals and serve as a catalyst for transforming the culture of engineering.” The vision for the 30th Annual TPC is that you will grow technically, succeed professionally, and receive opportunities to positively impact the community. As an organization of Black technical professionals, we are breaking barriers, advancing our technical expertise, and succeeding professionally.

TPC offers innovative experiences tailored to meet the needs of every NSBE Professional, as well as those who have yet to join our organization — from early-career professionals to seasoned industry leaders. My name is Kayla Scott, and I’m honored to serve as the Pre-College Initiative (PCI) Conference Chair for NSBE’s 2026 Annual Convention. As a mechanical engineer and bioengineer turned science teacher, I’ve experienced firsthand the power of being both a builder and a guide. I bring to this NSBE leadership role a deep passion for STEM education and intergenerational mentorship—values that will shape every part of your Convention experience.

This isn’t just a conference. It’s a movement.
NSBE Jr. isn’t a side stage. It’s center stage.
And you are the reason why.

Our 2026 Convention theme, “Advancing S.T.E.M. — One Convention. One Story.”, invites us to break down silos and build a legacy — together. Every moment has been designed to support your NSBE Jr. NEXT Journey, from bold academic challenges and real-world STEM experiences to healing spaces, design labs, and the return of our reimagined NSBE Jr. Innovators Main Stage, formerly the Pre-Torch Awards.

Baltimore has always been a city with unique charm. Next spring, ”Charm City” will add to that allure by opening its doors to a community of Black graduate scholars shaping the next era of innovation in science, technology and engineering. I am honored to serve you as chair of this event, the Graduate School Conference (GSC) of NSBE’s 2026 Annual Convention.

Whether you are curious about graduate school, knee-deep in your thesis or sprinting toward defense, this year’s program is built for you. Our sessions unfold against a backdrop of world-class campuses — Morgan State, Johns Hopkins, UMBC — and a growing tech corridor where start-ups, federal labs and social enterprises share blocks with neighborhood coffee shops.

Dear NSBE Family

It is with immense gratitude and excitement that I welcome you to the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) 2026 Annual Convention, hosted in the vibrant city of Baltimore, Maryland — located in the Model Region, Region II! As the 2026 Convention Planning Committee chairperson, I am honored to lead this legacy-defining experience, rooted in purpose, pride, and possibility.

NSBE has shaped my story in ways I never could have imagined. I’ve gone from a quiet girl from Delaware, unsure of her place in this space, to someone who now boldly carries the torch for the next generation. NSBE believed in me before I believed in myself. And that belief is what we’re channeling into every detail of this Convention.

Our theme for #NSBE2026 is Advancing S.T.E.M., a phrase that challenges us to go beyond the acronym and embrace the four pillars that support our movement:

  • Shaping the Future by leading in AI, green tech, and STEM education reform;

  • Transforming Communities by dismantling systemic barriers and paying it forward;

  • Empowering Excellence through mentorship, professional development, and access;

  • Mobilizing Innovation by daring to build, lead, and reimagine the world we want to live in.

This year’s Convention isn’t just about programming; it’s about people.
