My name is Talore Harrison. I began my NSBE career as a member at North Carolina A&T State University and my first National Convention was Las Vegas. I was so empowered and motivated when I saw all of the other successful black engineers. I went on to serve as the chapter’s Programs Chair where I helped us win Region 2 Chapter of the Year. I also served as the 2012 Convention Planning Committee Hospitality Manager, Vice President of a Professionals chapter in Tulsa that I started with other young professionals in the area, and I am now the 2018 Convention Planning Committee Technical Professionals Conference Chair. I also sit on the National Professionals Executive Board in this same position.
I have a passion to excel and exceed in everything I do. Being challenged to stretch my capabilities motivates me. Conquering the challenge allows me to grow and drives me to continuously seek new opportunities.
In the future I see myself in a role that allows me to encourage and enable black engineers of all ages to work to solve the world’s most critical problems. I believe that giving back is imperative for all that have been able to reach their goals. The real value comes from what you do after you reach your goals. As Jesus said, “For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required.”
I want to change the convention to be more responsive to the needs of the membership by implementing systems to better understand what those needs are and to effectively meet those needs. I want to be an example and touch as many people as I can to help the world better embrace and live Jesus’s teachings to treat others as you want to be treated.
