I am a young professional in Charlotte, N.C., and a graduate of North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering and a minor in technology, engineering and design education. I joined NSBE as a NSBE Jr. member in the Spring of 2010 but got more heavily involved while in college. I quickly joined leadership and became my chapter’s Senator during my freshman year. I then found my calling in the Communications Zone as my chapter’s Communications Chair, 2012 CPC Publications Chair, Region II Publications/Public Relations Chair, National Publications Chair and Communications Coordinator for the National Academic Excellence Committee.

My passions include STEM education, music, travel and digital media and design. Music definitely sets the tone of my day, and when I need a boost, I know exactly what to listen to. I’m also motivated by seeing the people I love flourish; that pushes me to do more.

I imagine myself finding the perfect balance between my creative passions and being a change agent in the realm of STEM education. I also imagine myself being a world traveler and explorer. I see myself living a life of purpose.

I would definitely like to change the fact that Convention is only an event that happens in March. I would really like to focus on yearlong engagement with our membership and the community. I would also like to change how we engage our membership during Convention as well. We get the members there, but while they’re there, a good number of them are not engaged in the actual conference. As far as changing the world is concerned, I would like to finally see the apparent global appreciation of Black culture translate to an appreciation of our humanity as well.

To increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community. Visit NSBE.org for more information.
