I am a shopaholic, traveler, music lover and recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. I joined NSBE during my sophomore year of college after finally listening to many of my mentors and friends. After my first Convention, in Nashville, I was committed and have been inspired ever since. After moving up the ranks on the Pitt NSBE Chapter Executive Board to the Region II Executive Board, I continue to make an impact through NSBE on this year’s Convention Planning Committee.
I am motivated by past, present and future. Our ancestors — or even more particularly, OUR ancestors — have fought many battles and sacrificed everything to get us here. I will always strive to continue their legacy and make sure our feats are just as powerful and never to be forgotten. I also believe that we — the present generation — have more potential than the world has ever seen before. Our heart, strength and intelligence motivate me not only to propel myself forward but bring as many people as I can with me. And last but not least, our future… is even greater than we can imagine!! I am motivated by the passion I see in kids to make a true difference in the world we’ve dealt them and will help in any way I can. My passion has always been people — through both art and science — which is why I became a bioengineer and why I am also an avid reader, art fanatic and eclectic music connoisseur.
I’m not quite sure where I see myself in the future. My Type A personality urges me to overthink and over-plan, but one thing I’ve learned from college is discerning between the things you can control and the things you can’t. My passion has always been medicine, and I will continue to use the knowledge I have to help people. In the meantime, I will always work toward the path God has planned for me!
I want everybody at Convention not only to understand but embody its purpose — every speaker, volunteer, sponsor and attendee! I want to help this CPC change Convention from a long weekend of new jobs and faces to a coming together after a year’s worth of impact, imagination and innovation. For the world, I hope to change how we cast out people’s differences instead of being willing to understand them.
