The National Society of Black Engineers would like to Invite you to our Special A Walk for Education & Torch Festival. This Event is for members of the Kansas City Community and NSBE to come together to highlight Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to the local community.

Academic Research Leadership Symposium  (ARLS)/ASSIST
The Academic and Research Leadership Symposium is a symposium that is co-located with the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Annual Convention. The ARL Symposium has two threads: (1) a faculty development thread, and (2) a research networking thread. The faculty development thread hosts workshops organized by members of the ARL network that strengthen and demystify fundamental components of academia. The researcher development and networking thread is critical to the goal of a self-sustaining ARL ecosystem. It provides an opportunity for seasoned researchers (university, corporate, government) to nurture connections with their peers, and be excited and inspired by the latest discoveries and technical advances across many disciplines of engineering and science. This year's theme is OUR PROFESSIONAL JOURNEY: PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE.

Code Success: Coding for the Real World
Collegiate, graduate and professional members: Join the interactive workshops and put your coding skills to action. These project-oriented sessions will provide technical skill building on how to create products (i.e. gaming app, website, database administrator, etc.) utilizing different coding algorithms. Walk away from the session with a finished product you can showcase to potential employers during the Career Fair at Convention!

The digiSTORY KC workshops on digital storytelling for kids will explore stop-motion animation, video production, and similar forms of narrative based digital media communication as a means to inspire and educate the next generation of digital storytellers.

All around the world, engineers are pushing the limits of ingenuity and innovation in unexpected, imaginative, and amazing ways. Dream Big: Engineering Our World, a giant-screen film about engineering, will take viewers on a journey of discovery from the world’s tallest building to a bridge higher than the clouds. Along the way, the audience will witness how today’s engineers are shaping the world of tomorrow. Dream Big Movie Premiere by DiscoverE and ASCE will introduce the students to amazing engineering projects, engineers and show how dreams come into reality when an engineer sets their mind to solve a problem.

Diverse By Design: A Conversation Series on Building Diversity in the Workforce/Networking Reception
Diverse by Design is a conversation series about building diversity and inclusion in the workforce hosted by Per Scholas, a national social change nonprofit that prepares motivated adults who are un- or underemployed with the technical and business skills to launch life-changing careers in technology. The event is co-hosted by ITSMF, the only national organization dedicated to exclusively cultivating professional talent among African-American IT executives.

Financial Management for the Professional Engineer
It is not uncommon for engineering firm principals, project managers and technical staff to become confused and handcuffed when confronted with firm financial matters. After all, you were trained as an engineer, not an accountant. This program is designed to peel away the layers of mystery and provide you with the necessary basics - specifically as they pertain to engineering firm management. Harley Davidson Company Tour

Attending the NSBE Annual Convention in Kansas City? You're invited to join Harley-Davidson Motor Company for a tour of its facilities. Tours take place on Friday, March 31 at 9:15 and 10 a.m. and last approximately 90 minutes.

The 358,000-square-foot Harley-Davidson Vehicle and Powertrain Operations in Kansas City, Mo. was built in 1998. Kansas City employees produce the Sportster®, Dyna® and StreetTM families of motorcycles, along with select Softail® models, from fabrication and finishing through final assembly to include the liquid-cooled Revolution XTM powertrains for the Street motorcycles. The tour center features a series of displays that guide you through the various manufacturing and assembly processes.

Safety Requirements: Fully enclosed, low-heeled (one inch or less) shoes are required.

This workshop will be going through the provided steps/tips of being a productive LinkedIn user. Within each step we will show examples and further actions that need to be done to achieve successful results. Many of the steps will be going over untapped LinkedIn features that many users fail to take advantage of. Some features are specific for college students but most are for everyone. NSBE Galactic Breakfast
The Space SIG has established itself since its beginnings in 2005 as a NSBE innovation center, now fielding numerous research and development teams centered around various spacecraft subsystems and space technologies. This is a precious resource and capability of the Black community. As NSBE is a volunteer, membership-based organization, the continued development and significance of work of the Space SIG is a function of the engineering professionals who join the SIG. The NSBE Galactic Breakfast is an opportunity for professionals attending National Convention, especially Career Fair exhibitors, who might not otherwise have the opportunity, to speak with Space SIG members about each project and learn about recent successes and upcoming developments in projects of personal or professional interest.

NSBE Public Policy SIG Partners will discuss emerging opportunities with current and perspective partners. The discussions will highlight efforts to increase the number of women in STEM leadership positions; closing the skills in technology gap; and addressing disparities in STEM education.

Paint the Town NSBE
Each year, Turner Construction celebrates our Founders’ Day with the “Paint the Town Blue” initiative. Employees around the world actively engage in a wide variety of community partnerships throughout the year.

This year, on Friday, March 31, Turner and NSBE attendees will have the opportunity to continue this tradition by tutoring, reading and helping elementary kids do their homework at Crossroads Academy. Due to the nature of this activity, a government-issued ID is required.

In the event of inclement weather, transportation will be provided however the school is within a 2 block radius from the Kansas City Convention Center.

Refreshments will be provided. Special accommodations in accordance with ADA compliance will be provided as well.

Turner Job Tour: National Training & Coaches Development Center
At Turner, you are not just building structures; you are building a portfolio of skills/experiences and creating the buildings where people live/work/play.

Join us in touring a soccer training facility for the U.S. National Team which will also include space for a Children's Mercy Sports Medicine Clinic in addition to locker rooms, player lounges, cryotherapy pools, classrooms, offices, etc.

The tour takes place from 8-10:30 a.m., on Friday, March 31, in conjunction with the NSBE Annual Convention in Kansas City.
